Exhaust Manifold Replacement Rear

Removal Procedure

Caution: Unless directed otherwise, the ignition and start switch must be in the OFF or LOCK position, and all electrical loads must be OFF before servicing any electrical component. Disconnect the negative battery cable to prevent an electrical spark should a tool or equipment come in contact with an exposed electrical terminal. Failure to follow these precautions may result in personal injury and/or damage to the vehicle or its components.

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2. Remove the air cleaner assembly. Refer to Air Cleaner Assembly Replacement in Engine Controls - 3.4L.
  3. Remove the throttle body duct.
  4. Remove the oxygen sensors. Refer to Heated Oxygen Sensor Replacement in Engine Controls - 3.4L.

  5. Object Number: 54366 Size: SH
  6. Remove the exhaust crossover heat shield.
  7. Disconnect the exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) pipe from the manifold, if equipped.

  8. Object Number: 54282 Size: SH
  9. Remove the exhaust crossover pipe nuts.
  10. Remove the crossover pipe from the manifold.

  11. Object Number: 54707 Size: SH

  13. Remove the exhaust manifold heat shield.

  14. Object Number: 54301 Size: SH
  15. Remove the exhaust manifold nuts.
  16. Remove the exhaust manifold and gaskets.
  17. Clean the mating surfaces at the cylinder head and at the exhaust manifold.

Installation Procedure

    Object Number: 54301 Size: SH
  1. Install the exhaust manifold gasket.
  2. Install the exhaust manifold.
  3. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  4. Install the exhaust manifold nuts.
  5. Tighten
Tighten the exhaust manifold nuts to 16 N·m (12 lb ft).

    Object Number: 54707 Size: SH
  6. Install the exhaust manifold heat shield.
  7. Install the exhaust manifold heat shield nuts.
  8. Tighten
Tighten the exhaust manifold heat shield nuts to 10 N·m (89 lb in).

    Object Number: 54282 Size: SH
  9. Install the exhaust crossover pipe to the manifold.

  10. Object Number: 54366 Size: SH
  11. Install the exhaust crossover pipe heat shield.
  12. Install the top half of the air cleaner assembly. Refer to Air Cleaner Assembly Replacement in Engine Controls - 3.4L.
  13. Install the throttle body duct.
