1. Disassemble the transaxle case. Refer to Transmission Case Disassemble in the M86/M94 Section of the Transmission Unit Repair Manual.
2. Check the following components for wear or damage.

•	The 2nd speed constant-mesh gears

•	The 1st/2nd synchronizer

Are any of the components worn, chipped, or scored?

Go to Step 2

Go to Bearing Noise

Service, repair, or replace the components as necessary. Refer to the M86/M94 Section of the Transmission Unit Repair Manual.

Did the noise disappear?

System OK

Go to Bearing Noise
