For 1990-2009 cars only
The lip seals require special treatment. The lip seals seal the rotating shafts. This type of seal is used on the following components:
| • | The steering gear at the pinion shaft |
| • | On the drive shaft of the pump |
When a leak occurs in this area, complete the following steps:
- Inspect the sealing surface.
- Thoroughly cleaning the sealing surface.
- Replace the seal.
Replace the shaft only if a very severe pitting is found. If the corrosion in the lip seal contact zone is slight, clean the surface of the shaft using a crocus cloth. Replace the shaft only if the crocus cloth does not stop the leakage by smoothing.
