The accumulator assembly service replacement part includes O-rings (as needed) for connections. The desiccant within the shell is NOT serviced separately. The desiccant is part of the sealed accumulator assembly.

Removal Procedure

  1. Recover the refrigerant. Refer to Refrigerant Recovery and Recharging .
  2. Raise the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.
  3. Remove the right wheelhouse splash shield. Refer to Wheelhouse Splash Shield Replacement in Body Front End.
  4. Remove the condenser hose assembly from the accumulator. Refer to Compressor Hose Assembly Replacement .
  5. Remove the evaporator hose assembly from the accumulator. Refer to Air Conditioning Evaporator Hose Assembly Replacement .

  6. Object Number: 588326  Size: SH
  7. Remove the accumulator bracket bolt.
  8. Remove the accumulator with the bracket from the vehicle.

  9. Object Number: 588323  Size: SH
  10. Remove the accumulator from the insulator and the bracket.

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 588323  Size: SH
  1. Install the insulator and the bracket to the accumulator.
  2. Important: You must add refrigerant oil to a NEW accumulator.

  3. Add the required amount of new refrigerant oil to a new accumulator. Refer to Refrigerant Oil Distribution .

  4. Object Number: 588326  Size: SH

    Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  5. Install the accumulator bracket and bolt to the vehicle.
  6. Tighten
    Tighten the accumulator bracket bolt to 10 N·m (89 lb in).

  7. Install the condenser hose assembly to the accumulator. Refer to Compressor Hose Assembly Replacement .
  8. Install the evaporator hose assembly to the accumulator. Refer to Air Conditioning Evaporator Hose Assembly Replacement .
  9. Install the right wheelhouse splash shield. Refer to Wheelhouse Splash Shield Replacement in Body Front End.
  10. Lower the vehicle.
  11. Recharge the A/C system. Refer to Refrigerant Recovery and Recharging .
  12. Inspect the system operation.
  13. Perform the leak test. Refer to Leak Testing .
