  1. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF.
  2. Turn ON the radio.
  3. Operate all of the steering wheel controls.

Do all of the steering wheel controls operate properly?

Go to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections in Wiring Systems

  1. Turn OFF the ignition.
  2. Disconnect the steering column in-line connector.
  3. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF.
  4. Test the ignition positive voltage circuit to the steering wheel controls, for a short to ground or open. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Did you find and correct the condition?

  1. Measure the resistance between the ignition positive voltage circuit (terminal G) of the steering column in-line connector and the steering wheel control signal circuit (terminal H).
  2. Press the following steering wheel controls and record the resistance values:
    • Volume Up
    • Volume Down
    • Play
    • Mute
    • Seek Up
    • Seek Down
    • AM/FM
    • Pre-Set

Do the recorded resistances measure near the specified values?

1270 ohms

294 ohms

348 ohms

475 ohms

715 ohms

1180 ohms

2370 ohms

13,580 ohms

  1. Turn OFF the ignition.
  2. Disconnect the radio connector.
  3. Test the signal circuit between the steering column in-line connector and the radio connector for a short, high resistance or an open. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Inspect for poor connections at the harness connector of the radio. Refer to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections and Connector Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Inspect for poor connections at the harness connector of the steering wheel radio controls. Refer to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections and Connector Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Replace the appropriate steering wheel radio control. Refer to Radio Front Side Door Lower Speaker Replacement or Front Upper Speaker Replacement for service procedure.
