  1. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF.
  2. Turn ON the radio.
  3. Adjust the radio balance and fade to the suspect speaker.

Does the speaker operate properly?

Is the vehicle equipped with an amplifier?

Is only one rear speaker inoperative?

  1. Turn OFF the ignition.
  2. Remove the radio. Refer to Radio Replacement for service procedure.
  3. Disconnect the appropriate radio connector with the inoperative speaker.
  4. Momentarily touch a 1.5 volt battery between the appropriate inoperative speaker circuits.

Does the speaker emit an audible pop?

  1. Turn OFF the ignition.
  2. Remove the radio. Refer to Radio Replacement for service procedure.
  3. Disconnect radio connector C2.
  4. Momentarily touch a 1.5 volt battery between the appropriate inoperative rear speaker circuits.

Does the speaker emit an audible pop?

  1. Turn OFF the ignition.
  2. Remove the radio. Refer to Radio Replacement for service procedure.
  3. Disconnect radio connector C2.
  4. Remove the amplifier.
  5. Disconnect the amplifier connector.
  6. Test all four rear speaker circuits for a short to ground and voltage. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Inspect for poor connections at the harness connector of the radio. Refer to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections and Connector Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Test the circuits of the inoperative speaker for an open or high resistance. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.
