Inspect the cassette tape player for an obstruction, through the cassette door.

Is there an obstruction?

  1. Carefully remove the obstruction.
  2. Inspect and clean the following components:
  3. • The moving parts.
    • The cassette head.
  4. You may use a cleaning cassette.
  5. Play a known good tape.

  1. Turn OFF the ignition.
  2. Remove the remote cassette player and disconnect the connector.
  3. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF.
  4. Turn ON the radio.
  5. Measure the voltage between the cassette player connector terminal 15 and a good ground.

Does the voltage measure near the specified value?

12 V

Measure the voltage between the cassette player connector terminal 7 and a good ground.

Does the voltage measure near the specified value?

12 V

Test the battery circuit for an open, high resistance, and short to ground. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

  1. Turn OFF the ignition.
  2. Remove the radio and disconnect connector C3. Refer to Radio Replacement for service procedure.
  3. Test the audio common and ground circuits for an open. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Test the radio on circuit for an open, high resistance, and short to ground. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.
