  1. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF.
  2. Turn ON the radio.
  3. Insert the tape or CD from the J 39916-A Speaker Diagnostic Kit.

Can audio be heard from any speakers?

Can audio be heard from all speakers?

Test all speaker outputs from the radio for a short to ground or a short to voltage. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Does the vehicle have an amplifier?

  1. Turn OFF the ignition.
  2. Remove the amplifier.
  3. Disconnect the amplifier connector.
  4. Test all speaker outputs from the amplifier for a short to ground or a short to voltage. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Inspect for poor connections at the harness connector of the radio. Refer to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections and Connector Repairs in Wiring Systems.
