Did you perform the Instrument Cluster Diagnostic System Check?

Start the engine.

Does the CHANGE OIL indicator illuminate after the bulb check?

Go to Step 3

Go to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections in Wiring Systems

1. Install a scan tool.
2. With a scan tool, observe the Engine Oil Life parameter in the PCM data list.

Does the Engine Oil Life parameter display 0%?

Go to Step 4

Go to Step 13

1. Reset the engine oil life. Refer to Oil Life Monitor Resetting in Maintenance and Lubrication.
2. With a scan tool, observe the Engine Oil Life parameter.

Does the Engine Oil Life parameter display 100%?

Go to Step 5

Go to Step 6

Does the CHANGE OIL indicator turn off?

Go to Step 15

Go to Step 13

1. With a scan tool, observe the Oil Life/TIM Reset Switch parameter in the BCM data list.
2. Press the oil life reset switch.

Does the Oil Life/TIM Reset Switch parameter display On?

Go to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections in Wiring Systems

Go to Step 7

1. Turn OFF the ignition.
2. Disconnect the oil life reset switch.
3. Connect a fused jumper wire between the signal circuit of the oil life reset switch and a good ground.
4. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF.
5. With a scan tool, observe the Oil Life/TIM Reset Switch parameter.

Does the Oil Life/TIM Reset Switch parameter display On?

Go to Step 9

Test the signal circuit of the oil life reset switch for an open, a high resistance, or a short to ground. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Did you find and correct the condition?

Go to Step 15

Go to Step 11

Test the ground circuit of the oil life reset switch for an open or a high resistance. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Did you find and correct the condition?

Inspect for poor connections at the oil life reset switch. Refer to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections and Connector Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Inspect for poor connections at the harness connector of the BCM. Refer to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections and Connector Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Replace the oil life reset switch.

Did you complete the replacement?

Go to Step 15

Replace the IPC. Refer to Instrument Cluster Replacement .

Did you complete the replacement?

Operate the system in order to verify the repair.
