Important:  The rearview mirror is attached to a rearview mirror support which is bonded to the windshield. This rearview mirror support is installed by the windshield supplier using a plastic-polyvinyl butyl adhesive. To install a detached rearview mirror support or install a new part, the following items are needed:

   • Loctiteâ„¢ Minute-Bond Adhesive 312 two component pack P/N 1052369 or equivalent.
   • Original rearview mirror support (prepared per steps 4 and 5 of the Installation Procedure) or replacement rearview mirror support.
   • Wax marking pencil or crayon.
   • Isopropyl alcohol.
   • Clean paper towel.
   • Fine grit emery cloth or sandpaper (320 or 360).
   • Clean toothpick.

  1. Measure from the top of the windshield to the top of the rearview mirror support.

  3. Mark the following locations on the outside of the windshield with wax pencil or crayon:
  4. • The centerline (1).
    • The locating circle (2).
    • The base of the support line on the outside of the windshield surface (2).
    • The circle on the outside of the windshield surface witch indicates the area to be cleaned.
    • Also make larger diameter circle around the rearview mirror support circle on the outside windshield surface.
  5. On the inside windshield surface, clean the large circle with paper towel and domestic scouring cleanser, GM Window Cleaner GM P/N 1050427 or polishing compound. Rub until the area is completely clean and dry. When dry, clean the area with an isopropyl alcohol saturated paper towel in order to remove any traces of the scouring powder or cleaning solution.
  6. With a piece of fine grit (320 or 360) emery cloth or sandpaper, sand the bonding surface of the new rearview mirror support or the factory installed rearview mirror support. If the original rearview mirror support is to be reused, all traces of the factory installed adhesive must be removed prior to reinstallation.
  7. Wipe the sanded rearview mirror support with clean paper towel saturated with isopropyl alcohol. Allow the mirror support to dry.
  8. Follow the directions on the manufacturer's kit in order to prepare the rearview mirror support prior to installation on the windshield.
  9. Properly position the rearview mirror support to the premarked location, with rounded end pointed upward; press rearview mirror support against windshield for 30--60 seconds, exerting steady pressure against the windshield.
  10. After 5 minutes, removed any excess adhesive with an isopropyl alcohol moistened paper towel or window cleaning solution.
  11. Install the rearview mirror. Refer to Inside Rearview Mirror Replacement .
