Operate the rear compartment lid release switch.

Does the rear compartment release?

With a scan tool command the rear compartment lid release relay control ON and OFF.

Does the rear compartment release?

Go to Step 4

  1. Disconnect the rear compartment lid release switch.
  2. Connect a fused jumper between the rear compartment lid release switch signal circuit and a good ground.
  3. Observe the trunk release input in the BCM data list.

Does the scan tool display active?

Go to Step 5

Connect a fused jumper wire between the rear compartment lid release switch signal circuit and the rear compartment lid release switch ground circuit.

Does the scan tool display active?

  1. Disconnect the rear compartment lid release relay.
  2. Connect a test lamp between the rear compartment lid release relay battery positive voltage circuit and a good ground.

Does the test lamp illuminate?

  1. Connect a test lamp between the rear compartment lid release relay battery positive voltage circuit and the rear compartment lid release relay control circuit.
  2. With a scan tool command the rear compartment lid release relay ON.

Does the test lamp illuminate?

Momentarily connect a fused jumper wire between the rear compartment lid release relay battery positive voltage circuit and the signal circuit of the rear compartment lid release actuator.

Does the rear compartment lid release?

  1. Reconnect the rear compartment lid release relay.
  2. Disconnect the rear compartment lid release actuator.
  3. Connect a test lamp between the rear compartment lid release actuator signal circuit and a good ground.
  4. With a scan tool command the rear compartment lid release relay control ON.

Does the test lamp illuminate?

Connect a test lamp between the rear compartment lid release actuator signal circuit and the ground circuit of the rear compartment lid release actuator.

With a scan tool command the rear compartment lid release relay control ON.

Test the control circuit of the rear compartment lid release relay for an open or high resistance. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.
