J 41623-B Cooler Quick Connect Tool.

Removal Procedure

  1. Remove the air cleaner assembly. Refer to Air Cleaner Assembly Replacement in Engine Controls-4.0 L.

  2. Object Number: 566627  Size: SH
  3. Remove the upper transaxle oil cooler pipe retaining bolt from the fan shroud.
  4. Slide the plastic cap off the upper transaxle oil cooler pipe quick connect fitting.
  5. Disconnect the upper transaxle oil cooler pipe from the radiator using the J 41623-B .
  6. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.
  7. Remove the rear exhaust manifold pipe in order to gain access to the upper transaxle oil cooler pipe fitting. Refer to Exhaust Manifold Rear Pipe Replacement in Engine Exhaust.

  8. Object Number: 627389  Size: SH
  9. Disconnect the upper transaxle oil cooler pipe from the rear of the transaxle utilizing one of the following methods.
  10. 7.1. If equipped with a threaded fitting.
             7.1.1. Hold the transaxle oil cooler pipe adapter in order to prevent the adapter from turning.
             7.1.2. Loosen and disconnect the transaxle oil cooler pipe from the oil cooler pipe adapter.
    7.2. If equipped with a quick connect fitting.
             7.2.1. Slide the plastic cap off the transaxle oil cooler pipe quick connect fitting.
             7.2.2. Disconnect the transaxle oil cooler pipe from the transaxle using the J 41623-B .
  11. Remove the upper transaxle oil cooler pipe from the vehicle.
  12. Lower the vehicle.

  14. Disconnect the lower transaxle oil cooler pipe fitting from the radiator.

  15. Object Number: 627386  Size: SH
  16. Disconnect the lower transaxle oil cooler pipe from the front of the transaxle utilizing one of the following methods.
  17. 11.1. If equipped with a threaded fitting.
             11.1.1. Hold the transaxle oil cooler pipe adapter in order to prevent the adapter from turning.
             11.1.2. Loosen and disconnect the transaxle oil cooler pipe from the oil cooler pipe adapter.
    11.2. If equipped with a quick connect fitting.
             11.2.1. Slide the plastic cap off the transaxle oil cooler pipe quick connect fitting.
             11.2.2. Disconnect the transaxle oil cooler pipe from the transaxle using the J 41623-B .
  18. Remove the lower transaxle oil cooler pipe from the vehicle.

Installation Procedure

Notice: Allow sufficient clearance around the transaxle oil cooler pipes and around the hoses to prevent damage or wear which may cause fluid loss.

  1. Position the lower transaxle oil cooler pipe into the engine compartment.

  2. Object Number: 527526  Size: SH

    Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  3. Connect the lower transaxle oil cooler pipe to the radiator.
  4. Important: Ensure the lower transaxle oil cooler pipe is positioned upwards while tightening.

    Tighten
    Tighten the transaxle oil cooler pipe fitting to 25 N·m (18 lb ft).

  5. Connect the lower transaxle oil cooler pipe to the front of the transaxle utilizing one of the following methods.
  6. 3.1. If equipped with a threaded fitting.
             3.1.1. Hold the transaxle oil cooler pipe adapter in order to prevent the adapter from turning.
             3.1.2. Install the transaxle oil cooler pipe to the oil cooler pipe adapter.

    Tighten
    Tighten the transaxle oil cooler pipe fitting to 35 N·m (26 lb ft).

    3.2. If equipped with a quick connect fitting.
             3.2.1. Push the transaxle oil cooler pipe into the transaxle quick connect fitting, until a "click" is heard.
             3.2.2. Tug gently on the cooler pipe to ensure proper retention.
             3.2.3. Slide the plastic cap over the quick connect fitting.
  7. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.

  8. Object Number: 627389  Size: SH
  9. Position the upper transaxle oil cooler pipe in the proper location.
  10. Install the upper transaxle oil cooler pipe retainers to the transaxle.
  11. Connect the upper transaxle oil cooler pipe to the rear of the transaxle utilizing one of the following methods.
  12. 7.1. If equipped with a threaded fitting.
             7.1.1. Hold the transaxle oil cooler pipe adapter in order to prevent the adapter from turning.
             7.1.2. Install the transaxle oil cooler pipe to the oil cooler pipe adapter.

    Tighten
    Tighten the transaxle oil cooler pipe fitting to 35 N·m (26 lb ft).

    7.2. If equipped with a quick connect fitting.
             7.2.1. Push the transaxle oil cooler pipe into the transaxle quick connect fitting, until a "click" is heard.
             7.2.2. Tug gently on the cooler pipe to ensure proper retention.
             7.2.3. Slide the plastic cap over the quick connect fitting.
  13. Install the rear exhaust manifold pipe. Refer to Exhaust Manifold Rear Pipe Replacement in Engine Exhaust.
  14. Lower the vehicle.

  15. Object Number: 430130  Size: SH
  16. Push the upper transaxle oil cooler pipe into the radiator quick connect fitting, until a "click" is heard.
  17. Tug gently on the cooler pipe to ensure proper retention.
  18. Slide the plastic cap (1) over the quick connect joint.

  19. Object Number: 566627  Size: SH
  20. Install the upper transaxle oil cooler pipe retaining bolt to the fan shroud.
  21. Tighten
    Tighten the transaxle oil cooler pipe retaining bolt to 6 N·m (53 lb in).

  22. Install the air cleaner assembly. Refer to Air Cleaner Assembly Replacement in Engine Controls-4.0 L.
  23. Notice: Do NOT overfill the transaxle. The overfilling of the transaxle causes foaming, loss of fluid, shift complaints, and possible damage to the transaxle.

  24. Adjust the fluid level. Refer to Transmission Fluid Check .
  25. Inspect for fluid leaks.
