Removal Procedure

  1. Remove the IP carrier assembly, to gain access to the brake pedal assembly to cowl mounting bolts. Refer to Instrument Panel Carrier Replacement in Instrument Panel, Gauges and Console.

  2. Object Number: 575743  Size: SH
  3. Disconnect the electrical connectors from the stoplamp/ABS/shift lock switch (2).
  4. Remove the stoplamp/ABS/shift lock switch from the brake pedal assembly. Refer to Stop Lamp Switch Replacement .
  5. Remove the TCC/cruise control release switch from the brake pedal assembly. Refer to Cruise Control Release Switch Replacement in Cruise Control.

  7. Remove the vacuum brake booster pushrod retainer.
  8. Remove the pushrod foam spacer.
  9. Remove the vacuum brake booster pushrod from the brake pedal.
  10. Remove the accelerator control cable. Refer to Accelerator Control Cable Replacement in Engine Controls - 3.5L.
  11. Remove the brake pedal assembly to cowl mounting nuts.
  12. Remove the brake pedal assembly to booster stud mounting nuts.
  13. Remove the brake pedal bracket and pedal assembly.

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 420708  Size: SH
  1. Install the brake pedal assembly onto the booster studs.
  2. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  3. Install the booster stud mounting nuts.
  4. Tighten
    Tighten the brake pedal to booster stud mounting nuts to 23 N·m (17 lb ft).

  5. Install the brake pedal to cowl studs mounting nuts.
  6. Tighten
    Tighten the brake pedal to cowl studs mounting nuts to 16 N·m (12 lb ft).

  7. Apply lubricant, GM P/N 1050109 or equivalent, to brake pedal clevis pin .
  8. Install the pushrod onto brake pedal clevis pin.
  9. Install the brake pedal foam spacer to the brake pedal clevis pin.
  10. Install the pushrod retainer to the brake pedal clevis pin.
  11. Install the accelerator control cable. Refer to Accelerator Control Cable Replacement in Engine Controls - 3.5L.

  13. Install the electrical connectors to the stoplamp/ABS/shift lock switch (2).
  14. Install the stoplamp/ABS/shift lock switch (2). Refer to Stop Lamp Switch Replacement .
  15. Install the TCC/cruise control release switch. Refer to Cruise Control Release Switch Replacement in Cruise Control.
  16. Install the IP assembly. Refer to Instrument Panel Carrier Replacement in Instrument Panel, Gauges and Console.
