Parking Brake Front Cable Replacement Manual Adjustment System

Removal Procedure

Important: The front manual adjustment park brake cable is serviced as a separate unit. The front park brake cable has a threaded equalizer rod for adjustment.

  1. Remove the left door carpet retainer. Refer to Front Carpet Retainer Replacement in Interior Trim.
  2. Remove the left closeout insulator panel. Refer to Instrument Panel Insulator Panel Replacement - Left Side in Instrument Panel, Gauges and Console.

  3. Object Number: 420694  Size: SH
  4. Pull the edge of the carpet back enough to access grommet.
  5. Loosen the grommet from the floor pan.
  6. Raise the vehicle and support. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.

  7. Object Number: 420684  Size: SH
  8. Disconnect the park brake cable adjuster from the front cable.
  9. Release the retaining tabs holding the front park brake cable housing in the floor pan and push the cable upward.
  10. Lower the vehicle.

  11. Object Number: 420700  Size: SH
  12. Disconnect the park brake cable from the lever assembly.
  13. Remove the park brake front cable assembly.

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 420695  Size: SH
  1. Route the front park brake cable through the floor pan.

  2. Object Number: 420694  Size: SH
  3. Install the cable housing retainer and grommet into the floor pan.

  4. Object Number: 420700  Size: SH
  5. Connect the park brake cable to the lever assembly and install the retainer.
  6. Reposition the carpet.
  7. Install the driver door carpet retainer. Refer to Front Carpet Retainer Replacement in Interior Trim.
  8. Install the left sound insulator panel. Refer to Instrument Panel Insulator Panel Replacement - Left Side in Instrument Panel, Gauges and Console.
  9. Raise the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.

  10. Object Number: 420692  Size: SH
  11. Install the park brake cable into the cable guides.

  12. Object Number: 420684  Size: SH
  13. Connect the park brake adjuster to the front cable.
  14. Adjust the park brake cable. Refer to Park Brake Cable Service/Adjustment .
  15. Lower the vehicle.

Parking Brake Front Cable Replacement Automatic Adjustment System

The front park brake cable is serviced with the automatic adjustment park brake pedal assembly. Refer to Parking Brake Lever Pedal Assembly Replacement . There is no threaded equalizer on the automatic adjustment park brake cable system.
