Removal Procedure

  1. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.
  2. Remove the right front tire and wheel. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation in Tires and Wheels.
  3. Important: Carefully guide the right drive axle output shaft past the lip seal. Do not allow the shaft splines to contact any portion of the lip seal surface.

  4. Remove the right drive axle from the vehicle. Refer to Wheel Drive Shaft Replacement in Driveline/Axle.

  5. Object Number: 289514  Size: SH
  6. Remove the transaxle brace bolts.
  7. Remove the case extension bolts that attach the transaxle brace
  8. Remove the transaxle brace.

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 289514  Size: SH
  1. Install the transaxle brace.
  2. Hand start the bolts in the engine block, oil pan, and case extension.
  3. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  4. Fully install the transaxle brace bolts.
  5. Tighten
    Tighten the transaxle brace bolts to 43 N·m (32 lb ft).

  6. Fully install the case extension bolts.
  7. Tighten
    Tighten the case extension bolts to 36 N·m (26 lb ft).

    Important: Carefully guide the right drive axle output shaft past the lip seal. Do not allow the shaft splines to contact any portion of the lip seal surface.

  8. Install the right drive axle into the vehicle. Refer to Wheel Drive Shaft Replacement in Driveline/Axle.
  9. Install the right front tire and wheel. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation in Tires and Wheels.
  10. Lower the vehicle.
