Test Description

The numbers below refer to the step numbers on the diagnostic table.

  1. Watch for the ignition key cylinder lamp operation. Command both the ON and OFF states. Repeat the commands as necessary.

Did you perform the Lighting System Diagnostic System Check?

Important:: The sun load sensor assembly must indicate low light conditions for the courtesy lamps to operate.

  1. Cover the sun load sensor assembly.
  2. Observe the ignition key cylinder lamp.
  3. Open a door.
  4. Close all of the doors.
  5. Wait more than 41 seconds.

Does the ignition key cylinder lamp operate properly?

Do the courtesy lamps operate properly?

Go to Step 4

Go to Courtesy Lamps Always On and Courtesy Lamps Inoperative

  1. Install a scan tool.
  2. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF.
  3. With a scan tool, command the Key Cylinder Halo Lamp ON and OFF from the instrument panel module (IPM) miscellaneous test data list.

Does the ignition key cylinder lamp turn ON and OFF with each command?

Go to Step 9

  1. Turn OFF the ignition.
  2. Disconnect the ignition key cylinder lamp bulb.
  3. Connect a test lamp between the battery positive voltage circuit of the ignition key cylinder lamp and the key cylinder lamp control circuit of the ignition key cylinder lamp.
  4. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF.
  5. With a scan tool, command the Key Cylinder Halo Lamp ON and OFF.

Does the test lamp turn ON and OFF with each command?

Test the battery positive voltage circuit of the ignition key cylinder lamp for high resistance, an open or a short to ground. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Test the key cylinder lamp control circuit of the ignition key cylinder lamp for a high resistance or open. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Inspect for poor connections at the ignition key cylinder lamp bulb. Refer to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections and Connector Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Inspect for poor connections at the harness connector of the IPM. Refer to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections and Connector Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Replace the ignition key cylinder lamp bulb. Refer to Ignition Lock Cylinder Bulb Replacement .

Important:: Perform the setup procedure for the IPM after replacement.
