Did you perform the Lighting System Diagnostic System Check?

  1. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF.
  2. Turn OFF the wipers.
  3. Position the headlamps switch in the AUTO position.
  4. Depress and hold the brake pedal.
  5. Move the gear selector out of park position.
  6. Verify the parking brake is disengaged.
  7. Expose the ambient light sensor to a bright incandescent light.
  8. Observe the headlamps.
  9. Wait about 20 seconds.
  10. Cover the ambient light sensor.
  11. Wait about 20 seconds.
  12. Place the gear selector in the park position.
  13. Release the brake pedal.
  14. Turn OFF the ignition.

Do the headlamps switch between low beam and daytime running lamps (DRL)?

Do the daytime running lamps (DRL) and headlamps operate properly?

  1. Install a scan tool.
  2. Disconnect the headlamp switch.
  3. Connect a 3-amp fused jumper between the twilight sentinel delay signal circuit of the headlamp switch and the ground circuit of the headlamp switch.
  4. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF.
  5. With a scan tool, observe the Twilight Delay Pot data parameter in the instrument panel integration module (IPM) inputs data list.

Does the scan tool indicate that the Twilight Delay Pot data parameter is less than the specified value?

0.09 V

Test the ground circuit of the headlamp switch for a high resistance or an open. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Test the twilight sentinel delay signal circuit of the headlamp switch for a high resistance, an open or a short to voltage. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Test the twilight sentinel delay signal circuit of the headlamp switch for a short to ground. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Inspect for poor connections at the harness connector of the headlamp switch. Refer to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections and Connector Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Important:: Perform the setup procedure for the IPM. Refer to Body Control Module (BCM) Programming/RPO Configuration in Body Control System.

Replace the IPM. Refer to Instrument Panel Module Replacement in Body Control System.
