  1. Apply lubricant GM P/N US 12345501, Canada 992704, or equivalent to the following areas:
  2. • Balance shaft thrust groove
    • Balance shaft journals
    • Balance shaft bearing inserts

  3. Using two hands, slide the balance shaft (1) into the engine. Support the balance shaft during installation to prevent any damage to the bushings. The balance shaft bushings are not serviceable.

  4. Object Number: 287743  Size: SH
  5. Install the balance shaft thrust plate.

  6. Object Number: 287744  Size: SH

    Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  7. Install the balance shaft thrust plate bolts.
  8. Tighten
    Tighten the balance shaft thrust plate bolts to 25 N·m (18 lb ft)
