Cleaning Procedure

  1. Clean all the following components with solvent:
  2. • Camshaft sprockets
    • Crankshaft sprocket
    • Primary timing chain
    • Secondary timing chains
    • Primary timing chain shoe
    • Primary timing chain guides
    • Primary timing chain tensioner
    • Secondary timing chain tensioners
    • Timing component fastening bolts

    Caution: Wear safety glasses in order to avoid eye damage.

  3. Dry the timing components with compressed air.

Visual Inspection

  1. Inspect the camshaft and crankshaft sprockets for damage. The camshaft and crankshaft sprockets are not repairable. If a camshaft and/or crankshaft sprocket is damaged, the camshaft and/or crankshaft sprocket must be replaced.
  2. Inspect the timing guides and shoe for wear, cracks or damage. The timing guides and shoe are not repairable. If a timing guide or shoe is worn cracked or damaged, the timing guide or shoe must be replaced.
  3. Inspect the timing chain tensioners for damage. The timing chain tensioners are not repairable. If a timing chain tensioner is damaged, the timing chain tensioner must be replaced.
  4. Inspect all bolts for damage. If a bolt is damaged, the bolt must be replaced.
  5. Inspect the timing chains for damage. The timing chains are not repairable. If a timing chain is damaged, the timing chain must be replaced.
