Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  1. Install the lower ball joint to the steering knuckle.
  2. Tighten
Tighten the lower ball joint nut (2) to 10 N·m (89 lb in) plus an additional 180 degrees. For cotter pin alignment, tighten the nut up to, but do not exceed 60 degrees additional rotation. Do not back off nut for cotter pin (1) alignment.

Important: Do not exceed two slots during cotter pin alignment.

  3. Continue to tighten the ball joint nut for cotterpin alignment and incert the cotterpin.
  4. Install the tie rod to the knuckle.
  5. Tighten
Tighten the tie rod end nut to 30 N·m (22 lb ift) plus an additional 180 degrees.

  6. Install the wheel bering/hub. Refer to Front Wheel Bearing and Hub Replacement .
