Luggage Compartment Description and Operation General
The trunk release system contains the following components:
• | The fuel door/trunk release switch |
• | The driver's door switch |
• | The driver's door module (DDM) |
• | The rear integration module (RIM) |
• | The trunk release relay |
• | The rear compartment lid release actuator |
The RIM operates the relays when it receives a class 2 message from
the DDM. The RIM will then verify that the vehicle is in park before releasing
either system.
The valet switch is used as a manual override for the system and must
be closed in order for the release systems to work properly.

Trunk Ajar Indicator
TRUNK AJAR -- 28
The DIC displays the TRUNK AJAR -- 28 indicator when the rear integration
module (RIM) detects that the trunk is open or ajar. The DIC receives
a class 2 message form the RIM requesting illumination. The IPC sends
a class 2 message to the radio in order to activate an audible warning.
