    • J 38185 Hose Clamp Pliers

Removal Procedure

  1. Recover the refrigerant. Refer to Refrigerant Recovery and Recharging .

  2. Object Number: 623826  Size: SH
  3. Remove the evaporator hose nut.
  4. Disconnect the evaporator hose connection from the evaporator.
  5. Using the J 38185 reposition the hose clamps.

  6. Object Number: 615208  Size: SH
  7. Remove the heater hoses (1, 2) from the heater core.
  8. Plug the heater core and evaporator openings to prevent leaking into the vehicle when removing module assembly.
  9. Pinch off the hoses in order to prevent leaking.
  10. Remove the IP assembly. Refer to Instrument Panel Carrier Replacement in Instrument Panel, Gages and Console.
  11. Remove the lower IP support bracket.

  13. Remove the defroster duct retaining screws (1,2) and nut (3).
  14. Remove the defroster duct.
  15. Remove the air distributor duct screws and duct.

  17. Disconnect the blower control module (1) connection.
  18. Disconnect the I/P to HVAC module (2) connection.

  19. Object Number: 247142  Size: SH
  20. Remove the HVAC module retaining nuts (1-5).
  21. Remove the HVAC module.

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 247142  Size: SH
  1. Install the HVAC module.
  2. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  3. Install the HVAC module nuts to the cowl (1-5). Refer to the illustration for the HVAC module fastener torque sequence.
  4. Tighten
    Tighten the nuts to 9 N·m (80 lb in).

  5. Connect the blower control module (1) connection.
  6. Connect the I/P to HVAC module connector (2).

  7. Object Number: 527479  Size: SH
  8. Install the defroster duct and the module mounting screws (1, 2).
  9. Tighten
    Tighten the screws to 1.4 N·m (12 lb in).

  10. Install the defroster duct mounting nut (3) to the front of dash.
  11. Tighten
    Tighten the nut to 9 N·m (80 lb in).

  12. Install the air distributor duct and screws.
  13. Tighten
    Tighten the screws to 1.4 N·m (12 lb in).

  14. Install the lower IP support bracket.
  15. Install the IP assembly. Refer to Instrument Panel Carrier Replacement in Instrument Panel, Gages and Console.

  16. Object Number: 615208  Size: SH
  17. Install the heater hoses (1, 2) to the heater core.
  18. Using the J 38185 Reposition the hose clamps into their original position.

  19. Object Number: 623826  Size: SH
  20. Connect the evaporator hose connection to the evaporator.
  21. Install the evaporator hose nut.
  22. Tighten
    Tighten the nut to 20 N·m (15 lb ft).

  23. Recharge the A/C system. Refer to Refrigerant Recovery and Recharging .
  24. Leak test the fittings of the component using the J 39400-A .
  25. Refill the engine coolant. Refer to Cooling System Draining and Filling in Engine Cooling.
