Test Description

The numbers below refer to step numbers on the diagnostic table.

  1. This step verifys that the Personalization Option is activated.

  2. This step determines if the mirror sensors are capable of sensing mirror position changes.

  3. This step verifies that the door module has the appropriate voltage available at both the horizontal and vertical sensor signal circuit pins. With the inoperative mirror harness connector disconnected from the associated door module, both the horizontal and vertical sensor signal circuits within the module should return to their highest value of 4.5-5.5 volts.

Did you perform the Door Systems Diagnostic System Check?

Verify that the Power Mirrors -- Memory Recall Position Inaccurate complaint is present by performing the following steps.

  1. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF.
  2. Adjust both outside rearview mirrors to your preference.
  3. With the memory switch, set the personalization recall to your adjustments.
  4. Adjust both outside rearview mirrors to an extreme position.
  5. Press the memory button that was previously programmed.

Did both outside rearview mirrors move back to the programmed setting?

  1. Install a scan tool.
  2. With the scan tool , navigate to the Setting Options screen by making the following selections:
  3. • Dash Integration Module
    • Special Functions
    • Set Options
    • Personalization Option
  4. Follow the on screen instructions to verify that the Personalization Option is activated.

Is the personalization option activated?

  1. With the scan tool, navigate to the Driver Door Module, Data list.
  2. With the scan tool, observe the appropriate Vertical sensor and Horizontal sensor Position parameters.
  3. With the mirror adjustment switches, move the inoperative mirror to the limits of travel in both the vertical and horizontal directions.

Does the scan tool indicate the Vertical and Horizontal Position parameter values change and are within the specified range?

0.5-4.75 V

  1. Turn OFF the ignition.
  2. Disconnect the harness connector of the inoperative mirror from the appropriate door module.
  3. Make sure that the other harness connectors to the door module remain connected.
  4. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF.
  5. Measure the voltage of the 5 volt mirror sensor reference circuit at the door module pin.

Is the voltage indicated within the specified range?

4.5-5.5 V

With a scan tool, observe the appropriate Vertical sensor and Horizontal sensor Position parameters in the Driver Door Module, Data list.

Does the scan tool indicate the Vertical and Horizontal Position parameter values are within the specified range?

4.5-5.5 V

  1. Install a 3 Amp fused jumper wire between the mirror sensor low reference circuit and the horizontal sensor signal circuit at the door module pins.
  2. With the scan tool, observe the Horizontal sensor Position parameter.
  3. Install the 3 Amp fused jumper wire between the mirror sensor low reference circuit and the vertical sensor signal circuit at the door module pins.
  4. With the scan tool, observe the Vertical sensor Position parameter.

Did the scan tool indicate the voltage for each sensor was within the specified range?

0-0.5 V

Inspect for poor connections at the harness connector of the inoperative outside rearview mirror. Refer to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections and Connector Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Inspect for poor connections at the harness connector of the inoperative outside rearview mirror. Refer to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections and Connector Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Replace the inoperative outside rearview mirror. Refer to Power Mirror Replacement .

Replace the door module of the inoperative mirror. Refer to Door Control Module Replacement .

Operate the system in order to verify the repair.
