Removal Procedure

    Caution: Refer to SIR Caution in the Preface section.

  1. Disable the SIR system. Refer to SIR Disabling and Enabling and SIR Disabling and Enabling in SIR.
  2. Disconnect the negative battery cable. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection in Engine Electrical.
  3. Remove left insulator panel. Refer to Instrument Panel Insulator Panel Replacement - Left Side .
  4. Remove right insulator panel. Refer to Instrument Panel Insulator Panel Replacement - Right Side .
  5. Remove the I/P outer trim covers. Refer to Instrument Panel Outer Trim Cover Replacement .
  6. Remove the I/P upper trim pad. Refer to Instrument Panel Upper Trim Pad Replacement .
  7. Remove the center console. Refer to Front Floor Console Replacement .
  8. Remove the radio. Refer to Radio Replacement in Entertainment.
  9. Remove the HVAC control module assembly. Refer to HVAC Control Module Replacement in HVAC Systems Automatic.
  10. Remove the drivers information center. Refer to Driver Information Center Module Replacement .
  11. Remove the knee bolster. Refer to Knee Bolster Replacement .
  12. Remove the knee bolster brackets. Refer to Knee Bolster Bracket Replacement .
  13. Remove the fasteners securing the steering column to the I/P carrier, lower and position the column out of the way. Refer to Steering Column Replacement in Steering.
  14. Remove the I/P cluster. Refer to Instrument Cluster Replacement .
  15. Remove the I/P storage compartment. Refer to Instrument Panel Storage Compartment Replacement .
  16. Disconnect the center I/P to body electrical harness connector.
  17. Disconnect the right I/P to body electrical harness connector.
  18. Disconnect the left I/P to body electrical harness connector.

  20. Remove fasteners securing the I/P retainer to I/P carrier.
  21. Remove the I/P retainer from the carrier, feed wiring through openings as necessary.
  22. If the I/P retainer is to be replaced, transfer all necessary components.

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 692905  Size: SH
  1. Position the I/P retainer to the carrier, feeding the wiring through the openings as removed.
  2. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  3. Install the I/P retainer fasteners in order to secure the IP retainer to the carrier.
  4. Tighten
    Tighten the fasteners to 2 N·m (18 lb in).

  5. Connect the left I/P to body electrical harness connector.
  6. Connect the right I/P to body electrical harness connector.
  7. Connect the center I/P to body electrical harness connector.
  8. Install the I/P storage compartment. Refer to Instrument Panel Storage Compartment Replacement .
  9. Install the I/P cluster. Refer to Instrument Cluster Replacement .
  10. Install the steering column. Refer to Steering Column Replacement in Steering Wheel and Column-Tilt.
  11. Install the knee bolster brackets. Refer to Knee Bolster Bracket Replacement .
  12. Install the knee bolster. Refer to Knee Bolster Replacement .
  13. Install the drivers information center. Refer to Driver Information Center Module Replacement .
  14. Install the HVAC control module assembly. Refer to HVAC Control Module Replacement in HVAC Systems Automatic.
  15. Install the radio. Refer to Radio Replacement in Entertainment.
  16. Install the center console. Refer to Front Floor Console Replacement .
  17. Install the I/P upper trim pad. Refer to Instrument Panel Upper Trim Pad Replacement .
  18. Install the I/P outer trim covers. Refer to Instrument Panel Outer Trim Cover Replacement .
  19. Install right insulator panel. Refer to Instrument Panel Insulator Panel Replacement - Right Side .
  20. Install left insulator panel. Refer to Instrument Panel Insulator Panel Replacement - Left Side .
  21. Connect the negative battery cable. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection in Engine Electrical.
  22. Enable the SIR system. Refer to SIR Disabling and Enabling and SIR Disabling and Enabling in SIR.
