General Motors has determined that certain 1992-1993 Oldsmobile Bravada trucks may have remote engine oil filter adapters that were improperly machined. This condition is internal to the adapter and would not give any outward indication of a problem. However, an improperly machine adapter could result in the engine oil not properly flowing through the oil filter and/or cooler if equipped).
To correct this condition, dealers are to replace the engine oil filter adapter, replace the oil filter and change engine oil on all involved vehicles.
All 1992 Bravadas and 1993 Bravadas up to the ending breakpoint:
YEAR SERIES MODEL ENGINE VIN BEGINNING ENDING ---- ------ ----- CODE VIN # VIN # ---------- --------- ------ 1992 T Bravada Z & W S.O.P. E.O.P.
1993 T Bravada W S.O.P. P2700629
This recall affects both versions of the 4.3L engine (RPO LB4, VIN Code "Z" and RPO L35, VIN Code "W").
S.O.P. means "Start of Production", and E.O.P. means "End of Production".
Dealers are to service all vehicles involved in this campaign, at no charge to owners, regardless of mileage, age of vehicle, or ownership.
Whenever a vehicle subject to this campaign is taken into your new or used car inventory, or if it is in your dealership for service, you are to ensure the campaign correction has been made before selling or releasing the vehicle.
Dealers are to contact owners of vehicles recently sold from your new or used vehicle inventory and arrange for the campaign correction to be performed.
1. Raise and support the hood.
2. Remove two wing nuts from the remote air cleaner box and move air cleaner box aside (L35, VIN Code W engine only).
3. Remove oil filter. Disconnect the engine oil lines from the adapter. Save the 0-rings for possible re-use at re-assembly.
4. Disconnect the cooler oil lines from the adapter, if so equipped. Save the 0-rings for possible re- use at re-assembly.
5. Remove the remote oil filter adapter from the body. Obtain a new remote oil filter adapter assembly and install it to the body. The adapter assembly comes with the oil filter pre-installed and torqued.
6. Inspect the 0-rings for cuts or imperfections. Replace as necessary, P/N 15564870.
7. Reconnect the cooler oil lines if so equipped. Reconnect the engine oil lines.
8. Drain the engine oil from the crankcase. Fill the crankcase with new oil (approximately 4 1/2 quarts).
9. Run the engine and inspect connections for leaks.
10. Install a Campaign Identification Label.
11. Close the hood.
Each label provides space to print the campaign number, and the five (5) digit dealer code of the dealer performing the campaign. Insert this information with a typewriter or ball-point pen. When installing label, clean and dry the surface of the radiator support tie bar and apply the campaign label where it is readily visible.
50 % of the anticipated required parts will be preshipped to dealers on or about the week of February 19, 1993. Both part number assemblies will be included in the shipment, if applicable. The parts will be charged to the dealers open account.
To ensure parts are obtained as soon as possible, order them from GM Service Parts Operations (GMSPO) on a C.I.O. order, with NO special instruction code, but order on an advise code (2). Use the following part numbers:
DESCRIPTION USAGE VIN PART QUANTITY ----------- ----- LIST NUMBER PER CODE ------ VEHICLE ---- -------- Filter Asm-Oil, Without Oil Cooler A 10236273 1, as with Adapter (Standard on LB4, VIN code Z) required
Filter Asm-Oil, With Oil Cooler B 10236274 1, as with Adapter (Standard on L35, VIN code W) required (LB4, VIN code Z, with Z82 Trailer Towing Package)
The campaign printout sent to dealers with involved vehicles indicates which vehicles require P/N 10236273 ("A") and which vehicles require P/N 10236274 ("B"). After receiving the "preship" parts, order the balance of required parts accordingly.
Submit claims using only one of the "V" labor-operation numbers below for each vehicle:

General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
