Noisy relief valve in the hydraulic
pump.
|
• | There is some noise in all power steering systems. |
• | One of the most common noises is a hissing sound most evident
at standstill parking. Hiss is a high frequency noise. The noise is present
in every valve. The noise results from high velocity fluid passing the valve
orifice edges. |
• | There is no relationship between the noise and the performance
of the steering. Expect hiss when the steering wheel is at the end of travel
or when slowly turning at standstill. |
• | Do not replace the valve unless the hiss is extremely objectionable. |
• | A replacement valve also exhibits slight noise. A new valve is
not always the cure for the noise. |
