The gear is loose on the frame.

1. Inspect the gear mounting bolts.
2. Tighten the bolts to specifications.

Refer to Fastener Tightening Specifications .

The steering linkage is loose.

1. Inspect the linkage pivot points for wear.
2. Replace the linkage pivot points as necessary.

Refer to Steering Linkage Inspection in Steering Linkage.

The pressure hose is touching other components on the vehicle.

Adjust the hose position. Do not bend the tubing by hand.

The pitman arm is loose.

Tighten the pitman arm bolt. Refer to Fastener Tightening Specifications .

Improper over-center adjustment.

A slight rattle may occur on turns because of increased clearance off the high point. This is normal. Do not reduce clearance below the specified limits in order to eliminate this slight rattle.

Adjust to specifications. Refer to Fastener Tightening Specifications .
