Battery Positive Cable Replacement 4.2L Engine

Removal Procedure

  1. Disconnect the battery negative cable. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection .

  2. Object Number: 899613  Size: SH
  3. Disconnect the battery positive cable (4) from the battery.

  4. Object Number: 759304  Size: SH
  5. Disconnect the positive cable lead from the junction block (1).
  6. Disconnect the battery cable conduit from the conduit retaining clip.
  7. Remove the battery positive cable from the conduit.
  8. Remove the battery positive cable harness from the fir-tree retainer on the powertrain control module (PCM) bracket.

  9. Object Number: 754358  Size: SH
  10. Disconnect the positive cable lead from the starter (1).

  11. Object Number: 754357  Size: SH
  12. Disconnect the positive cable lead from the generator (1).
  13. Remove the battery positive cable from the vehicle.

Installation Procedure

  1. Position the battery positive cable in the engine compartment.
  2. Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in the Preface section.


    Object Number: 754357  Size: SH
  3. Install the battery positive cable to the generator and secure with the nut (1).
  4. Tighten
    Tighten the nut to 9 N·m (80 lb in).

  5. Connect the positive cable to the starter and secure the positive cable with the nut (1).
  6. Tighten
    Tighten the nut to 9 N·m (80 lb in).

  7. Install the battery positive cable harness to the fir-tree retainer on the PCM bracket.
  8. Install the battery positive cable into the conduit.
  9. Connect the battery cable conduit to the conduit retaining clip.

  10. Object Number: 759304  Size: SH
  11. Connect the positive cable to the junction block and secure the positive cable with the bolt (1).
  12. Tighten
    Tighten the bolt to 10 N·m (89 lb in).

  13. Connect the battery positive cable (4) to the positive battery post.
  14. Tighten
    Tighten the battery positive bolt to 15 N·m (11 lb ft).

  15. Connect the battery negative cable. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection .
