Battery Negative Cable Replacement 4.2L Engine

Removal Procedure

  1. Disconnect the battery negative cable. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection .

  2. Object Number: 754359  Size: SH
  3. Remove the bolt that secures the harness to the front wheelhouse panel (1).
  4. Remove the bolt that secures the harness to the shock tower (2).
  5. Remove the harness from the engine harness bracket.
  6. Remove the bolt that secures the harness to the engine block.

Installation Procedure

Important: 

   • The negative battery cable must not be connected to the battery prior to the installation of the engine harness ground terminal to the engine block.
   • The negative battery cable must not be connected to the battery prior to the installation of the instrument panel harness and the engine harness to the powertrain control module.

  1. Clip the harness to the engine harness bracket.

  2. Object Number: 754359  Size: SH

    Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  3. Install the bolt that secures the harness to the shock tower (2).
  4. Tighten
    Tighten the bolt to 10 N·m (89 lb in).

  5. Install the bolt that secures the harness to the engine block.
  6. Tighten
    Tighten the bolt to 50 N·m (37 lb ft).

  7. Install the bolt that secures the harness to the wheelhouse panel (1).
  8. Tighten
    Tighten the bolt to 10 N·m (89 lb in).

  9. Connect the negative battery cable to the battery. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection .
