Removal Procedure

Caution: Refer to Brake Dust Caution in the Preface section.


    Object Number: 748566  Size: SH
  1. Raise the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.
  2. Remove the tire and wheel assembly. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation in Tires and Wheels.
  3. Remove the brake caliper assembly. Refer to Rear Brake Caliper Replacement .
  4. Inspect the brake caliper assembly. Refer to Brake Pad Inspection .

  6. Remove the brake pad retaining clip from the brake caliper.

  7. Object Number: 748557  Size: SH
  8. Remove the brake pads from the brake caliper mounting bracket.

  9. Object Number: 748570  Size: SH
  10. Remove the brake caliper mounting bracket.

  11. Object Number: 748563  Size: SH
  12. Remove the brake pad retaining clips from the brake caliper mounting bracket.

  13. Object Number: 788831  Size: SH
  14. Remove the brake caliper guide pins from the brake caliper mounting bracket.

  15. Object Number: 788344  Size: SH
  16. Remove the guide pin bushing from the brake caliper mounting bracket.
  17. Clean the brake caliper mounting bracket with denatured alcohol.
  18. Dry the brake caliper mounting bracket using non-lubricated, filtered air.

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 788344  Size: SH
  1. Install the guide pin bushing in the brake caliper mounting bracket.

  2. Object Number: 788831  Size: SH
  3. Install the brake caliper guide pins.

  4. Object Number: 156329  Size: SH
  5. Apply high temperature silicone brake lubricant to the brake caliper guide pins. DO NOT apply to the brake caliper hardware or the retaining clips.

  6. Object Number: 748570  Size: SH
  7. Install the brake caliper mounting bracket.
  8. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  9. Install the brake caliper mounting bolts.
  10. Tighten
    Tighten the disc brake caliper mounting bracket bolts to 70 N·m (52 lb ft).

  11. Install the brake pad retaining clips on the brake caliper mounting bracket.

  12. Object Number: 748557  Size: SH
  13. Install the brake pads to the brake caliper mounting bracket.

  14. Object Number: 787920  Size: SH
  15. Install the brake pad retaining clip to the brake caliper.

  16. Object Number: 748566  Size: SH
  17. Install the brake caliper assembly. Refer to Rear Brake Caliper Replacement .
  18. Install the tire and wheel assembly. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation in Tires and Wheels.
  19. Lower the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.
  20. Caution: Do not move the vehicle until a firm brake pedal is obtained. Failure to obtain a firm pedal before moving vehicle may result in personal injury.

  21. Pump the brake pedal slowly and firmly in order to seat the brake pads.
