Verify that the backup lamps are always on.

Do the backup lamps operate normally?

Go to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections in Wiring Systems

Does this vehcle have a manual transmission?

Go to Step 5

Use the scan tool to check if DTC P0705 is set in the current or history Powertrain DTC Information.

Is DTC P0705 present?

Go to DTC P0705 in Automatic Transmission - 4L60 - E

Go to Step 6

  1. Block the wheels or set the parking brake.
  2. Turn the ignition switch to the RUN position with the engine OFF.
  3. Disconnect the backup lamp switch.

Do the backup lamps remain illuminated?

Go to Step 6

Test the following circuits for a short to voltage. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems:

    • The backup lamp switch signal (M/T only).
    • The backup lamp supply voltage.

Did you find and correct the condition?

Go to Step 10

Inspect for poor connections at the harness connector of the Body Control Module (BCM). Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Important: Perform the setup procedure for the BCM.

Replace the body control module (BCM). Refer to Body Control Module Replacement in Body Control System.

Adjust or replace the backup lamp switch.

Did you complete the repair?

Operate the system in order to verify the repair.
