4.2L VIN S LL8 - Oil Pan Drain Plug Opening Thread Information - kw damage engine leak

Subject: 4.2L VIN S LL8 - Oil Pan Drain Plug Opening Thread Information

Models:.

The following diagnosis might be helpful if the vehicle exhibits the symptom(s) described in the PI.

Condition/Concern:

A heli-coil may be removed from the oil pan drain plug opening when the oil pan drain plug is removed during an oil change.

Recommendation/Instructions:

This heli-coil is part of the oil pan assembly. The harder material of the heli-coil allows repetitive removal and installation of the oil pan drain plug. If this heli-coil comes out of position, it will be necessary to install a time sert by following the thread repair procedure outlined in SI document 764602. All of the installation tools and specifications can be found in the "Oil-Pan Top View" table that is listed in SI document 730859. The correct time sert number is 416, which is available through Kent Moore by ordering kit number J 42385-416.

.

Please follow this diagnosis process thoroughly and complete each step. If the condition exhibited is resolved without completing every step, the remaining steps do not need to be performed.
