Some vehicles may have an inoperative cruise control system due to an omitted ground wire. The omitted ground wire renders the vehicle speed sensor (VSS) inoperative.
This can be confirmed by inspecting the instrument panel wiring harness connectors to the torque converter clutch connector located below the glove compartment area.
The I/P harness has two connectors (7 Pin and 8 Pin) while the torque converter clutch harness has one connector (15 pin) which should contain three wires (blue - choke heater, green - torque converter clutch, black - cruise control ground).
The short black ground wire mounts to sheet metal and plugs into cavity 'M' of the 15 Pin connector.
General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
