1987-88 THM 200-4R (MW9) REAR WHEEL DRIVE CUTLASS SUPREME AND CUSTOM CRUISER MODELS
New pump bushing removal and installation tool. Use this tool when servicing a THM 200-4R transmission built on or after January 9, 1987 (Julian Date 009).
DATE OF PRODUCTION CHANGE: (Figures 1 and 2) ------------------------- January 9, 1987 (Julian Date 009): Machined step added to pump bushing bore to prevent bushing "walk out".
The above change is incorporated in all service packages shipped with the carton date code B7 or later, and will service all years and models. Refer to current GMSPO catalog for part number information.
SERVICE ACTION: (Figure 3) -------------------------- Because of the stepped bore in the pump body, removal/installation procedures and tool for the pump body bushing have been changed. Use the new available tool from Kent-Moore (J 25019-20) for removal/installation.
Always take care not to scratch machined surfaces of the pump cover--protect by placing cloth or cardboard between machined surfaces and the tool as necessary. Apply grease to the new bushing and threaded parts of the tool.
Refer to the THM 200-4R automatic transmission unit repair for pump assembly service procedures. Use Figure 3 to supplement information contained in your 1987 THM 200-4R Unit Repair Section.
General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
