Important:
• | Only use oil free compressed air to blow out the fuel pipes. |
• | Inspect the fuel tank internally and clean the fuel tank if you
find a plugged fuel filter. |
• | When flushing the fuel tank, the fuel and water mixture needs
to be treated as a hazardous material. The material needs to be handled in
accordance with all local, state and federal laws and regulations. |
- Relieve the fuel system pressure. Refer to the
Fuel Pressure Relief
.
- Drain the fuel tank. Refer to
Fuel Tank Draining
.
- Remove the fuel tank. Refer to
Fuel Tank Replacement
.
- Remove the fuel sender assembly. Refer to
Fuel Sender Assembly Replacement
.
- Inspect the fuel pump strainer. Replace a contaminated strainer
and inspect the fuel sender assembly.
- Inspect the fuel sender assembly inlet for dirt and debris. Replace
the fuel sender assembly if you find dirt or debris in the fuel pump inlet.
- Flush the fuel tank with hot water.
- Pour the water out of the fuel sender assembly opening. Rock the
tank to remove all of the water from the fuel tank.
- Install the fuel sender assembly. Refer to

.
- Install the fuel tank. Refer to
Fuel Tank Replacement
.
- Refill the fuel tank.
- Install the fuel filler cap.
- Connect the negative battery cable.
- Inspect for fuel leaks through the following steps:
14.1. | Turn the ignition switch to the ON position for two seconds. |
14.2. | Turn the ignition switch to the OFF for ten seconds. |
14.3. | Turn the ignition switch to the ON position. |
14.4. | Check for fuel leaks. |
