The cruise control switch assembly is comprised of the following switches:
• | The On/Off switch |
• | The Resume/Accel/Set/Decel switch |
The On/Off switch is located on the left side of the steering wheel. The Resume/Accel/Set/Decel switch is mounted on the right side of the steering wheel.
The switches are not independent of one another. Service the switches as one assembly. The On/Off switch has positions. This switch turns the cruise control system ON and OFF. A small indicator lamp on the switch illuminates when the switch is in the ON position.
The cruise control Set/Decel switch is located on the right side of the steering wheel. The cruise control Set/Decel switch has the following positions:
• | Normal |
• | Depressed |
Perform the following steps in order to set the cruise speed:
The cruise speed will be set at the particular speed the vehicle was at when the switch was released. The vehicle cruise speed will be within 0.62 km/h (1 mph) of the actual speed when you engage the switch and after the speed has stabilized. You may not set the cruise speed with the Resume button.
The system will cruise until any of the following actions occurs:
• | The On/Off switch is moved to OFF. |
• | The ignition switch is turned OFF. |
• | The Set/Decel switch is pushed in and fully held. |
• | The brake pedal is depressed. (Pushing the brake pedal releases the cruise, but not the cruise capability.) |
With the switch fully depressed, the driver may raise or lower the vehicle speed. In order to decrease vehicle speed, complete the following steps:
• | Fully depress the switch. |
• | The controller releases the previously set speed. |
• | Slow to a new speed. |
• | Once the switch is released, the new speed sets. |
An increased control speed can also be set with the Resume/Accel switch, as described later in this section.
In order to tap down, complete the following steps:
Do not hold the button in the depressed position or the system will revert to the coast mode.
The tap-down function allows you to decrease the cruise speed by 0.62 km/h (1 mph) increments (one tap equals a 1 mph decrease). The system may tap-down until the system reaches the low speed lockout of 40 km/h (25 mph). The cruise will be inoperative.
The Resume/Accel switch is located on the right side of the steering wheel.
The Resume/Accel switch has the following positions:
• | Normal |
• | Depressed |
Important: The Resume will not function unless the Set button has been previously set on the current ignition cycle.
The Resume switch returns the cruise control operation to the last speed setting by momentarily depressing the switch after braking. If you hold the switch in the RESUME/ACCEL position for more than one second, the system reverts to the Accel mode.
In order to accelerate the vehicle, perform the following steps:
The speed the vehicle has accelerated to becomes the new cruise speed when you release the Resume/Accel switch.
Caution: In order to keep the vehicle under control, and to prevent possible vehicle damage, it is not advisable to use the cruise control on slippery roads. It is recommended not to use the cruise control in conditions such as on winding roads or in traffic of heavy or varying volume.
In order to tap-up the vehicle speed, use the Resume/Accel switch and complete the following steps:
The system will revert to the Accel mode if you hold the switch in the Resume/Accel position. The tap-up allows you to increase the cruise speed by 0.62 km/h (1 mph) increments (one tap equals a 1 mph increase). Depress the accelerator at any time in order to override the cruise system. Release the accelerator in order to return the vehicle to the previously set cruise speed.
