Valve Rocker Arm Cover Replacement front
Removal Procedure
Caution: Unless directed otherwise, the ignition and start switch must be in the OFF or LOCK position, and all electrical loads must be OFF before servicing
any electrical component. Disconnect the negative battery cable to prevent an electrical spark should a tool or equipment come in contact with an exposed electrical terminal. Failure to follow these precautions may result in personal injury and/or damage to
the vehicle or its components.
- Disconnect
the negative battery cable.
- Partially drain the cooling system. Refer to
Cooling System Draining and Filling
in Engine Cooling.
- Remove the rear ignition
wire harness at the upper intake manifold and at the spark plugs.
- Remove the heater bypass intake.
- Disconnect the PCV vacuum hose.
- Remove the valve rocker
cover bolts.
- Remove the valve rocker cover.
Bump the end of the valve rocker cover with the palm of your hand or
a soft rubber mallet if the cover adheres to the cylinder head.
- Clean the sealing surface on the cylinder head and the valve rocker
cover with degreaser.
Installation Procedure
- Install a new gasket and
new bolt grommets to the valve rocker cover. Ensure that the gasket is seated
properly in the valve groove.
- Apply sealer in the notch on the cover. Use GM P/N 1052917
or the equivalent.
- Install the valve rocker cover.
- Connect the PCV valve vacuum line.
Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners
must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring
replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant
are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or
corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified.
These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage
the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when
installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.
- Install the valve
rocker cover bolts.
Tighten
Tighten the bolts to 10 N·m (89 lb in).
- Install the heater bypass tube. Refer to
Cooling System Draining and Filling
in Engine Cooling.
- Refill the cooling system.
- Install the rear ignition wire harness.
- Connect the negative battery cable.
