The improperly controlled relative motion between vehicle components causes squeaks and rattles. Use the following three steps in order to prevent the squeak or rattle:

  1. Attach the components securely. Ensure that there is no relative motion during operation of the vehicle.
  2. Separate the components. Ensure that there is no contact under vehicle operating conditions.
  3. Insulate the components in order to ensure that squeaks or rattles do not occur with relative motion between the vehicle components.
  4. Low uniform friction surfaces may eliminate "stick-slip" motion.
