A GM Goodwrench engine (GM Part No. 25519459) is now available through WDDGM for some current and past-model vehicles equipped with 3.8L V-6 231 cu. in. engines. All GM Goodwrench engines are manufactured with new components.
These replacement engines will provide prompt service and customer satisfaction for the owner of the vehicle. The applications for the GM Goodwrench 3.8L V-6 engine is as follows: For 1979 models, only engines with VIN Code "2" (California Only). For 1980-84 models, engines with VIN Code "A".
Some 1979 and 1980 models will require the use of original oil pan and oil pick-up pipe.
The special instructions below should be followed when using the new assembly:
1979 - Remove and discard oil pan and oil pump suction pipe and screen assembly from the new engine assembly. Take the same parts from replaced engine and install them on the new engine.
1980 - If the oil dipstick is stamped with part number 1257413 (red handle), then follow the instructions above from 1979. If the oil dipstick is stamped with part number 2550547 (black handle), assembly can be used as supplied with this engine.
1982 - Three (3) accessory drive mounting holes located front and rear of the thru cylinder heads must be tapped to M10 X 1.5 threads. Present
Care should be taken when performing this operation as the 3/8-16 threads can be stripped if tap is started improperly. After tapping the holes, the metric attaching bolts from the replaced engine can be used.
WHAT'S INCLUDED? ---------------- Cylinder block assembly, connecting rod and piston assemblies, crankshaft (which will accept an automatic or manual transmission), camshaft, cylinder head assemblies, including valve trains, camshaft and crankshaft sprockets with chain, timing gears and timing cover, oil pump and screen, oil pan, four (4) quarts factory fill oil, and an installation instruction sheet.

GM Goodwrench 3.8L V-6 engines use current model parts. When servicing vehicles with 3.8L engines, it will be necessary to determine if a GM Goodwrench 3.8L engine has been installed. Each GM Goodwrench 3.8L V-6 engine will have a distinctive label on the left rocker arm cover making the engine readily identifiable for ordering service parts.
Any warranty claims submitted to Oldsmobile for the installation of a GM Goodwrench 3.8L V 6 engine will require authorization, and are to be submitted using the following labor operation numbers. List the applicable engine part number in the "Failed Part Number" column.

General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
