SPECIAL POLICY: FLEX VANE WINDSHIELD WASHER PUMP

MODELS/YEARS 1984-85 CUTLASS CIERA - 1985 CALAIS AND NINETY-EIGHT

CONDITION

Some 1984-85 Oldsmobile Cutlass Ciera models and some 1985 Oldsmobile Calais and Ninety-Eight models may experience an inadequate or inoperative flex vane windshield washer pump.

SPECIAL POLICY ADJUSTMENT

Should an inoperative flex vane windshield washer pump be encountered, General Motors will inspect and, if necessary, replace the pump.

Refer to Dealer Technical Bulletin 85-T-56 for information regarding the service procedure and dealer claim submission.

This Special Policy covers both parts and labor for a period of five (5) years or 50,000 miles, whichever occurs first, from the date the vehicle was originally placed in service.

This "Special Policy Adjustment Bulletin" should be filed in the 3 ring binder furnished to the dealer by General Motors.

Claims for customer reimbursement for previously paid repairs are to be submitted as outlined in Dealer Technical Bulletin 85-T-56.

OWNER NOTIFICATION

Owners of vehicles involved in this Special Policy will be notified by Oldsmobile Division. A copy of the Owner Letter is provided on the reverse side of this Bulletin.

Dear Oldsmobile Owner:

Some 1984 and 1985 Oldsmobile Cutlass Ciera and 1985 Ninety-Eight and Calais owners may find that their windshield washer pumps don't work properly and need to be replaced after some period of use. This condition may happen after the new vehicle warranty period. We are writing this letter to tell you about the following Special Policy:

If your windshield washer pump stops working and needs to be replaced, Oldsmobile Division will replace it at your Oldsmobile dealer at no charge, for a period of 5 years or 50,000 miles, whichever occurs first, from the date the vehicle was originally placed in service. Please contact your dealer for handling this Special Policy and for information on parts availability.

If you have already encountered this condition and paid for all or part of the repair, you should contact your Oldsmobile dealer. You should present the dealer with your original paid receipt or invoice verifying expense incurred for such repair. All requests for reimbursement should be made before August 1, 1987.

This Special Policy only applies to conditions that require replacement of the windshield washer pump. Other problems that may occur in the system are not covered by this Special Policy.

We also recommend that you regularly check your washer fluid reservoir and make sure that the reservoir does not run dry. No matter what the condition of your washer pump, the washers cannot do their job without fluid. And because activating the washer system when the reservoir is empty makes the pump work harder, you may be able to prolong the satisfactory operation of your pump by keeping fluid in the reservoir.

We suggest you keep this letter and store it in the glove compartment of your vehicle, along with the Owner's Manual, Maintenance Schedule, and Warranty Booklet.

Oldsmobile Division is taking this action in the interest of your continued satisfaction with our products.

General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
