FUEL PUMP FUSE BLOWS INCORRECT OIL GAGE WIRING

VEHICLES AFFECTED: 1984 Oldsmobile 'A' Series Equipped With 3.0L V-6 And Gauges (U21)

You may experience a condition of fuel pump fuse failure or instant max oil pressure indication on initial engine start-up on a Cutlass Ciera with 3.0L engine and gauges (U21). This condition may be caused by an improperly connected tan wire in the oll pressure gauge circuit. Refer to Fig. 1. This connector is lucated about five inches back from the engine harness branchout to the fuel pump and coolant fan relays on the left strut tower. The connection should be disconnected and the free end taped back on cars with the U21 gauges option. On standard cluster or electronic cluster, the wires should be connected.

General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
