CONDITION: Some 1992 Cutlass Ciera models built prior to vehicle number N6405097 may exhibit an engine cooling system malfunction due to portions of the cooling system being blocked off by undissolved sealer pellet material.
CAUSE: Sealer pellets used in production may not have received appropriate coolant flow to completely dissolve. Undissolved pellets may expand and block off portions of the engine cooling system.
To avoid being burned, do not attempt this procedure while the engine is at normal operating temperature. The cooling system will release scalding fluid and steam under pressure if the following procedure is followed on a cooling system that is still hot.
------------ 1. Follow Service Manual procedures for removal of the following parts and inspect each for sealer pellet clogs. Break up and/or clear any clog and install the pieces of the clog (pellet material pieces) in the radiator end tank through the filler neck. The pellet material pieces must be fully submerged in coolant.
A. Radiator Cap (filler neck area). B. Overflow tube. C. Upper radiator hose.
2. Reassemble cooling system and insure that the coolant level is correct.
General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
