POWER ANTENNA MAY NOT RETRACT SEND RADIO TO DELCO FOR REPAIR

SUBJECT: POWER ANTENNA MAY NOT RETRACT SEND RADIO TO DELCO REPAIR STATION

MODELS/YEARS: 1989-90 CUTLASS SUPREME AND TORONADO

CONDITION: The power antenna may not retract when the ignition is on and the radio is turned off. The antenna should retract when the ignition is turned off.

This condition may occur on radios with push buttons for volume control and tuning (called Advanced Electronically Tuned Radio, or AETR).

NOTE: On 1990 Toronado and Trofeo models equipped with a factory installed cellular telephone, the automatic power antenna will be in the up position anytime the phone is powered up.

CAUSE: The software in the radio may allow this condition to happen when the battery power to the radio has been removed and then restored, or when the vehicle has been jump started.

CORRECTION: Send the radio to your local Delco repair station, with a clear explanation of the condition.

General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
