OIL PRESSURE LIGHT MAY FLICKER AT IDLE IN HOT AMBIENT TEMP.

MODELS/YEARS 1989 CUTLASS SUPREME MODELS WITH 2.8L OR 3.1L ENGINE (VIN CODE W, T) AND INSTRUMENT PANEL GAGE PACKAGE

CONDITION:

---------- The "low" engine oil pressure indicator light may flicker at idle, in very hot ambient temperatures. This condition may occur on 1989 Cutlass Supreme models equipped with 2.8L or 3.1 L engines and instrument panel gage package (these vehicles use both a gage and a "low" oil pressure warning indicator light).

CAUSE:

------ The diaphragm in the sensor which moves with changes in oil pressure, may be affected by high ambient temperatures. Because the sensor is not vented, high temperature causes the air inside the sensor to expand, pushing against the diaphragm. The condition can cause a lower than actual reading, which may cause the "low" oil pressure warning indicator light to flicker at idle.

CORRECTION:

----------- A new vented oil pressure sensor, part number 10096199, has been released for 1990 production. This new sensor should be used for the above service applications.
