THIS BULLETIN IS BEING REVISED TO ADD THE USE OF A PRIMER IN THE INSTALLATION PROCEDURE. PLEASE DISCARD CORPORATE BULLETIN NUMBER 43-10-41A (SECTION 10 - BODY). ----------------------------------------------------------------------
SOME OWNERS MAY OBSERVE SMALL AMOUNTS OF WATER LEAKING BETWEEN THE FOLDING TOP AND WINDSHIELD HEADER.
AS THE TOP CONTRACTS DUE TO TEMPERATURE OR AGE, A SMALL GAP MAY APPEAR WHERE THE TOP'S FORWARD EDGE MEETS THE WINDSHIELD HEADER. THIS MAY ALLOW RAIN OR CAR WASH WATER TO HIT DIRECTLY ON THE PRIMARY WEATHERSTRIP, FLOODING THE SEAL.
TO CORRECT, INSTALL SECONDARY SEAL, P/N 12524986, FOLLOWING INSTRUCTIONS BELOW:
1. VERIFY TOP STOWAGE COMPARTMENT AND TRUNK ARE CLEAR OF OBJECTS THAT MAY INTERFERE WITH TOP STORAGE.
2. UNLATCH AND LOWER THE TOP.
3. USING A SHARP UTILITY KNIFE, TRIM THE "A" PILLAR WEATHERSTRIPS AS SHOWN IN FIGURE 1 TO PROVIDE A CONTINUOUS SURFACE TO MOUNT THE NEW SECONDARY SEAL.
4. CLEAN GROOVE IN WINDSHIELD HEADER MOLDING AND CORNERS WITH ISOPROPYL ALCOHOL AS SHOWN IN FIGURE 1.
5. MASK OFF THE HEADER MOLDING GROOVE LEAVING AN EXPOSED AREA 8.0 MM (5/16 INCH) WIDE ACROSS THE ENTIRE LENGTH OF THE HEADER MOLDING AS SHOWN IN FIGURE 1. THE TOP EDGE OF THE EXPOSED AREA SHOULD BE 6.0 MM (1/4 INCH) BELOW THE TOP OF THE HEADER MOLDING.
6. APPLY A THIN COATING OF PINCHWELD PRIMER SUCH AS 3M WINDO-WELD PRIMER (BLACK) #08643, OR EQUIVALENT, TO THE EXPOSED 8.00 MM (5/16 INCH) WIDE AREA OF THE HEADER MOLDING GROOVE. ALLOW THE PRIMER TO AIR DRY FOR AT LEAST 5 MINUTES BEFORE APPLYING THE SECONDARY SEAL.
7. REMOVE THE MASKING TAPE.
8. REMOVE A PORTION OF THE BACKING TAPE FROM THE SECONDARY SEAL. LEAVING ABOUT 24 MM (1 INCH) OVERLAPPING THE END OF THE HEADER, INSTALL THE SECONDARY SEAL ON THE PRIMER, 6 MM (1/4 INCH) BELOW THE HEADER TOP AS SHOWN IN FIGURE 2. IF A RUB MARK (LINE) CREATED BY THE FOLDING TOPS' FRONT WELTING IS VISIBLE, INSTALL THE SECONDARY SEAL EVEN WITH THE TOP EDGE OF THIS LINE.
9. ROLL WITH A HARD OBJECT TO ENSURE GOOD ADHESIVE CONTACT.
10. CAREFULLY PULL BACK THE HEADER PORTION OF THE "A" PILLAR WEATHERSTRIP AND TRIM THE SECONDARY SEAL LOWER EDGE FLUSH WITH THE BOTTOM OF THE HEADER MOLDING. TRIM THE END OF THE SECONDARY SEAL FLUSH WITH THE SIDE OF THE HEADER MOLDING. REPOSITION THE "A" PILLAR WEATHERSTRIP TO ITS ORIGINAL POSITION (FIGURE 1).
11. RAISE AND LATCH TOP.
