Removal Procedure
- Remove the valve rocker arm cover(s). Refer to
Valve Rocker Arm Cover Replacement
.
- Remove the upper intake manifold. Refer to
Intake Manifold Replacement
.
- Remove the lower intake. Refer to
Intake Manifold Replacement
.
- Remove the rocker arm bolt(s), bearing(s), rocker arm(s) and retainer(s).
Refer to
Valve Rocker Arm and Push Rod Replacement

Important: Make sure that all valve train parts are kept in order so that they
can be reinstalled in their original locations and with the same mating surfaces
as when removed.
- Remove the pushrod(s).
- Remove the valve lifter
guide bolts.
- Remove the valve lifter guide(s).
- Remove the valve lifter(s).
- Clean all gasket surfaces with degreaser.
- Clean the valve train parts.
- Inspect the valve lifters for wear.
- Inspect the cam lobes for wear.
Installation Procedure
- Dip the valve lifter(s)
in prelube GM P/N 12345501 or equivalent .
- Install the valve lifter(s) to the same position the valve lifter(s)
was removed from.
- Install the valve lifter guide(s).
Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners
must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring
replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant
are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or
corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified.
These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage
the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when
installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.
- Install the valve
lifter guide bolts.
Tighten
Tighten the valve lifter guide bolts to 30 N·m (22 lb ft).
- Install the pushrod(s).
- Install the retainer, rocker arm(s), bearing(s) and bolt(s). Refer
to
Valve Rocker Arm and Push Rod Replacement
.
- Install the lower intake. Refer to
Intake Manifold Replacement
.
- Install the upper intake manifold. Refer to
Intake Manifold Replacement
.
- Install the valve rocker arm cover(s). Refer to
Valve Rocker Arm Cover Replacement
.
