Water Pump Replacement 3.5L V6 LX5

Removal Procedure


    Object Number: 277030  Size: SH
  1. Partially drain the cooling system. Refer to Cooling System Draining and Filling .
  2. Loosen the water pump pulley bolts.
  3. Remove the drive belt. Refer to Drive Belt Replacement .
  4. Remove the idler pulley bolt.
  5. Remove the idler pulley.

  7. Remove the water pump pulley bolts.
  8. Remove the water pump pulley.

  9. Object Number: 293992  Size: SH
  10. Remove the long water pump bolts (1).

  11. Object Number: 293994  Size: SH
  12. Remove the short water pump bolts.

  13. Object Number: 293990  Size: SH
  14. Remove the water pump.
  15. Remove the water pump gasket.
  16. Clean and inspect the water pump mating surfaces.

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 293990  Size: SH
  1. Install the water pump gasket.
  2. Install the water pump.
  3. Loosely install the long water pump bolts.
  4. Loosely install the short water pump bolts.
  5. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  6. Install the water pump bolts.
  7. Tighten
    Tighten the water pump bolts to 14 N·m (124 lb in).

  8. Install the water pump pulley.
  9. Loosely install the water pump pulley bolts.
  10. Install the idler pulley.
  11. Install the idler pulley bolt.
  12. Tighten
    Tighten the idler pulley bolt to 50 N·m (37 lb ft).

  13. Install the drive belt. Refer to Drive Belt Replacement .

Water Pump Replacement 3800 V6 L36

Tools Required

J 36660-A Torque Angle Meter

  1. Partially drain the engine coolant from the cooling system. Refer to Cooling System Draining and Filling .
  2. Loosen the water pump pulley bolts.
  3. Remove the drive belt. Refer to Drive Belt Replacement in Engine Mechanical - 3.8L.

  4. Object Number: 46174  Size: SH
  5. Remove the water pump pulley bolts.
  6. Remove the water pump pulley.
  7. Position aside the power steering pump. Refer to Power Steering Pump Replacement in Power Steering Gear and Pump On-Vehicle Service.

  8. Object Number: 46177  Size: SH
  9. Remove the water pump bolts.

  10. Object Number: 46178  Size: SH
  11. Remove the water pump.
  12. Remove the water pump gasket.
  13. Clean and inspect the water pump mating surfaces.

Installation Procedure

  1. Install the water pump gasket.
  2. Install the water pump.

  3. Object Number: 46177  Size: SH

    Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application.   4. Use theJ 36660-A in order to install the water pump bolts.
  5. Tighten

        • Tighten the long water pump bolts to 20 N·m (15 lb ft) plus 40 degrees
        • Tighten the short water pump bolts to 15 N·m (11 lb ft) plus 80 degrees.

  6. Install the water pump pulley.
  7. Loosely install the water pump pulley bolts.
  8. Install the power steering pump. Refer to Power Steering Pump Replacement in Power Steering Gear and Pump On-Vehicle Service.
  9. Install the drive belt. Refer to Drive Belt Replacement in Engine Mechanical.
  10. Tighten the water pump pulley bolts.
  11. Tighten
    Tighten the bolts to 13 N·m(115 lb in)

  12. Fill the engine cooling system with engine coolant. Refer to Cooling System Draining and Filling .
  13. Inspect for leaks.
