Removal Procedure

Notice: Cap the fittings and plug the holes when servicing the fuel system in order to prevent dirt and other contaminants from entering the open pipes and passages.

Important: Always maintain cleanliness when servicing fuel system components.

Important: There is no service interval for the in-pipe fuel filter replacement. Only replace the in-pipe fuel filter if the filter is restricted.

  1. Relieve the fuel system pressure. Refer to Fuel Pressure Relief .
  2. If plastic collar quick connect fittings are used refer to Plastic Collar Quick Connect Fitting Service for the correct service procedure.
  3. Raise the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in Cautions and Notices.
  4. Disconnect the quick-connect fitting at the inlet of the in-pipe fuel filter. Refer to Metal Collar Quick Connect Fitting Service .
  5. Disconnect the threaded fitting at the outlet of the in-pipe fuel filter.
  6. Drain any remaining fuel into an approved gasoline container.

  8. Remove the in-pipe fuel filter and the mounting bracket.
  9. Remove the fuel filter from the fuel filter mounting bracket.

Installation Procedure

Notice: Always re-attach the fuel lines and fuel filter with all original type fasteners and hardware.

Do not repair sections of fuel pipes.

  1. Remove the protective caps from the new fuel filter.
  2. Slide the fuel filter into the fuel filter mounting bracket.
  3. Install the fuel filter and the mounting bracket.
  4. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  5. Install the fuel filter mounting bracket retaining bolt.
  6. Tighten
    Tighten the bolt to 20 N·m (15 lb ft)

  7. Connect the quick-connect fitting at the inlet of the in-pipe fuel filter. Refer to Metal Collar Quick Connect Fitting Service .
  8. Install the new O-rings to the in-pipe fuel filter.
  9. Connect the threaded fitting at the outlet of the in-pipe fuel filter.
  10. Tighten
    Use a back-up wrench in order to prevent the in-pipe fuel filter from turning. Tighten the nut to 30 N·m(22 lb ft).

  11. Lower the vehicle.
  12. Tighten the fuel cap.
  13. Connect the negative battery cable.
  14. Inspect for leaks.
  15. 11.1. Turn the ignition switch on for 2 seconds.
    11.2. Turn the ignition switch off for 10 seconds.
    11.3. Turn the ignition switch on.
    11.4. Inspect for fuel leaks.
