Notice: Use care when performing service operations on or around parking brake cables. Damage to the plastic coating will reduce corrosion protection and if the damaged area passes through the seal, increased parking brake effort could result. Contacting the coating with sharp-edged tools, or with sharp surfaces of the vehicle underbody, should be avoided.

This vehicle is equipped with coated parking brake cable assemblies. Clear plastic material coats the wire strand . The plastic slides over plastic seals inside the conduit end fittings. The plastic provides corrosion protection and reduced parking brake effort.

When servicing the parking brake, use the following recommendations in order to prevent damage to the threaded parking brake adjusting rod:

    • Clean the exposed threads on each side of the nut before turning the adjusting nut.
    • Lubricate the threads of the adjusting rod before turning the nut.

Pre-stretch the new cable before adjusting the parking brake when replacing any of the parking cables. Apply and fully release the parking brake several times in order to stretch the cable.

The parking brake pedal is located on the dash panel to the left of the service brake pedal. The parking brake is a push-to-release the mechanism. The parking brake applies by depressing the pedal once. The parking brake releases when the pedal depresses again. The parking brake does not have a release handle.
