Removal Procedure

Tools Required

J 37043 Parking Brake Cable Release Tool

  1. Remove the driver's side instrument panel insulator. Refer to Instrument Panel Insulator Replacement .
  2. Remove the left carpet retainer. Refer to Carpet Retainer Replacement .
  3. Pull back the carpet for access.
  4. Raise and suitably support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle .

  5. Object Number: 179640  Size: SH
  6. Loosen the parking brake cable and the equalizer.
  7. Disconnect the front cable from the rear cable at the connector clip.
  8. Remove the front cable from the connector clip.
  9. Use the J 37043 in order to remove the front cable clip from the underbody bracket.
  10. Lower the vehicle.
  11. Disconnect the electrical connector at the parking brake switch.
  12. Remove the three lever nuts from the body mounting studs.

  14. Remove the parking brake lever with the parking brake cable.
  15. Remove the cable button end from the lever clevis.
  16. Use the J 37043 in order to remove the cable from the lever.
  17. Remove the switch, if being replaced.

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 177096  Size: SH
  1. Install the switch, if removed.
  2. Install the cable to the new parking brake lever.
  3. Install the cable end to the lever clevis.
  4. Install the new parking brake lever.

    Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  6. Install the three lever to body mounting nuts.
  7. Tighten
    Tighten parking brake lever mounting nuts to 25 N·m(18 lb ft).

  8. Connect the electrical connector at the parking brake switch.
  9. Raise and suitably support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle .
  10. Feed the cable through the underbody and clip the cable into place.
  11. Tighten the parking brake cable at the equalizer.
  12. Lower the vehicle.
  13. Position the carpet in place.
  14. Install the left carpet retainer. Refer to Carpet Retainer Replacement .
  15. Install the driver's side insulator panel. Refer to Instrument Panel Insulator Replacement .
  16. Adjust the parking brake. Refer to Park Brake Cable Service/Adjustment .
